Inspiration

Once again, similar to Pride, 2051, I was inspired by Cope & Arnold’s work. This time by their incredible Spacecraft project. It’s a super interesting use of simple geometry and harsh lighting.

They’d created a number of these sculptures for the project, and then combined them to create more complex structures. I wondered if it were possible to create a procedural setup in Houdini for these things, then be able to clone them X times, each one with a different seed, animating some parameters to have the structure distort over time.

Caustics R&D

I’d been meaning to cover caustics for a while, so these overlapping forms were a good chance to experiment. I assigned random colours to each segment, then fed those attributes into the glass transmission and pumped up the dispersion.
